Acceptable use policy

This policy defines what you may and may not use datamint for. It forms part of our terms of service, and violations can result in suspension.

The public data doctrine

You may use datamint only to retrieve data that is publicly accessible without authentication. This is the posture set out in hiQ Labs v. LinkedIn and Van Buren v. United States, and it is a hard boundary — not a default we will relax on request.

Prohibited uses

  • Circumventing access controls. No logging in, submitting credentials, or defeating paywalls to reach content that requires authorisation.
  • Personal data harvesting. Do not use the service to compile profiles of identifiable individuals. Redaction strips common personal identifiers, but that is a safety net, not a licence.
  • Denial of service. No use intended to degrade or overload a target. Our client applies adaptive backoff on 429 and 503, and attempts to defeat it are a violation.
  • Illegal content or activity. No child sexual abuse material, no content that is illegal to possess or distribute in your jurisdiction or ours.
  • Sanctions and export control. No use in violation of applicable sanctions or export-control law.
  • Resale without agreement. Do not resell raw access to the service as a generic scraping proxy.

Robots.txt

Compliance with robots.txt is configurable. Strict compliance is available on every plan and is the default for the free tier. Enterprise accounts may configure targeted crawling under explicit contractual terms; that configuration is an agreement about specific targets, not a blanket waiver.

Rate and courtesy limits

We apply adaptive backoff when a target returns 429 or 503, and may throttle or suspend an account whose traffic patterns indicate an intent to overwhelm a target.

If you believe the service is being used against your site or in breach of this policy, contact abuse@datamint.xyz. We aim to respond to abuse reports within two business days.
